About this project

This project was made by Jonathin Witters, as part of his bachelor's thesis in Computer Sciences at the VUB, in 2024.

This project aims to create an extensible web application for creating and displaying ambient information visualisations, created by users themselves or by editing one of the provided templates. As the subject of the thesis was also IoT related, one of the important features is the ability to map devices or other information channels directly to components on the canvases. Read more about this in the thesis itself, as attached down below.

About the people involved

  • Jonathin Witters (me)

I am currently (March, 2024) a third bachelor student Computer Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. This research topic interests me a lot and my hopes are that this application can be extended and actually used in practice, as I really see use in this interesting visualisation style for nicely integrated, passive information absorption.
  • Dr. Audrey Sanctorum

Dr. Sanctorum is the main promotor of this bachelor thesis. She has been a huge help, getting me started on interesting sources, supporting me throughout the project, reading my (at the beginning perhaps mediocre) writing and listening to my ideas.
  • Prof. Dr. Beat Signer

Prof. Dr. Signer, director of the Web & Information Systems Engineering (WISE) laboratory, taught me about web technologies in the first semester. Joining in on the thesis in the second semester, he has been a great inspiration source, as he has given me various ideas regarding usability, functionalities and implementation.
